2022 Summer Workshop to be held on 04-08 July

Workshop Format

For 30 years, LIS has organized the LIS Introductory Summer Workshop, held in Luxembourg, in order to ease the access to data on inequality.

This year, for the third time, LIS, the University of Luxembourg and LISER will jointly organize and teach the LIS Summer Workshop on “Comparative Inequality Measurement using the LIS & LWS Databases”. This workshop, taught in English, is a one-week intensive course designed to introduce researchers in the social sciences to comparative research on income and wealth distribution, employment and social policy, using the harmonised Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) and the Luxembourg Wealth Study (LWS) Databases.

Attendees will be trained to use both databases independently and will have the opportunity to:

  • Acquire advanced knowledge about methods used in inequality research
  • Gain skills related to the study of comparative inequality
  • Learn in detail about the LIS and LWS data and develop ties with LIS’ large international network

Programme

The programme of the workshop will closely follow the structure of the 2019 workshop, with the contribution of Professor Philippe Van Kerm (LISER, and the University of Luxembourg), and Professor Louis Chauvel (The University of Luxembourg). In addition to external speaker(s) on different topics.

The 2022 provisional programme is available here.

Please note that optional training sessions on advanced Stata and R functions for LIS data analysis will be available on the Sunday 3rd of July afternoon. Therefore, kindly arrange your travel and accomodation plans accordingly if you would be interested in attending these sessions as proposed in the draft agenda.

  Important:

  • For European PhD Students in social sciences and economics, 1.5 ECTS will be granted, participants are evaluated on active attendance to the workshop. One additional ECTS is granted for a short paper/essay evaluated by the committee (including Professors Chauvel, and van Kerm).
  • The lab sessions will be taught mainly using Stata package, in addition to few lab sessions in R. Each attendee is requested to bring his/her laptop. Having Stata installed on your laptop is recommended – but not required.
