Distortions in the measurement of the upper tail of many economic distributions may be especially problematic, because this tail is often highly skewed. Kennickell develops illustrative examples applied to the Survey of Consumer Finances to highlight some of the problems in making comparisons of wealth inequality measures when there are specific defects in the measurement of the upper tail of the distribution.
